CASH DRAWERS - POINT OF SALE Cash Draw
Cash Drawer - Point of Sale - Drawers
The cash drawer/draw is usually the most reliable part of a complete POS system, which is interesting when you consider the ancient technology used to build them.
Basically, every component (with the exception of paints and plastic) has been around for at least 100 years!
Besides just the basic understanding that the product has enough note and coin slots, there are only a few considerations:
Note clips. Some drawers have weak note clips - ensure adequate strength. If the clip is plastic, this does not necessarily mean the clip will break under normally expected workloads.
Draw slides and rollers. Ensure the drawer does not have excessive sideways wobble, particularly when loaded with coins. Sometimes rollers can fail, but we find this is very rare.
The drawer stop. This is the mechanism that stops the draw from coming completely out when it is triggered and a weak drawer stop can lead to the draw, complete with cash, crashing to the floor! Look at the drawer stop and determine its ability to continually - over the course of many, many openings - stop the drawer.
Wiring. While it may seem simpler to re-wire and use the drawer that's under the old cash register, don't take the risk. It may be a 12V drawer, when modern printers need 24V, which can lead to the destruction of the printer's draw control circuit. Even some solenoids in drawers running on 24V have impedance that is too low for modern printers.
