Welcome to the new and exciting world of digital technology. In 1998 digital broadcasting commenced in the USA and Great Britain. Digital broadcasting started in Australia in the five major metropolitan regions on 1st January 2001 heralding a new age in television for Australians. Many Australians now enjoy digital television. The change from analogue to digital broadcast has been compared to two other major historic developments in TV. (AC-3). HDTV is the highest DTV resolution in the new set of standards.

HDTV in Australia can supply imagines with up to 1080i (i=interlaced) lines of resolution, compared to the Australian standard PAL 625 lines.
